Happy Thanksgiving to me...

Well it started out as a normal Thanksgiving day. The usual sleeping in and being lazy for a few hours. This year it was my family's turn to have us over for Thanksgiving and I was planning on preparing green bean casserole and a new dish with carrots and cauliflower. I had just finished the green bean casserole and while it was in the oven I started the new dish. I had to cut the carrots and I thought it would look pretty if I cut them on the diagonal. Well I got out a big knife - not one that I normally use to chop veggies with - but thought what the heck let's have a little fun. It's Thanksgiving day, why not? Well - this is what happened... I sliced off the tip of my little finger!! Well havoc started in the household - my dear husband went into caregiver mode and took over! I was so proud of him! He was in the middle of giving little honey a bath and little honey had shampoo in his hair - but dear husband took it all in stride, he got me a chair to sit down in, he got me a towel to wrap my finger in and collect the blood. In less than 10 minutes they were both dressed and out the door to take me to the hospital, including the diaper bag, a change of clothes for me (since I was still in my p.j.'s!), part of my finger in an ice bag, and the green bean casserole from the oven! A quick drive to my parents house to drop off little honey and the casserole and we were off to get me fixed up. I do have one big testimony about the entire ordeal ~ NO PAIN! Thank you Jesus! As soon as it happened, my mind went into slow motion, and all I could think about was God can fix this. I immediately asked God to keep me from feeling any pain, I did not want to feel this! And I haven't! I won't go into all the details, but the piece of finger could not be saved. The only thing that hurt was 1. the Lidocaine shot the doctor shoved down my finger, 2. the Tetanus shot the doctor made me get in my arm (which is still sore by the way) and 3. my stomach when I have to change my bandages and I see the mess and blood, and then I feel nauseous! Otherwise NO PAIN in my finger!!! A part of me is gone now, and yes she will be missed, but life must go on... Well needless to say, we missed Thanksgiving dinner with my family, but the left overs were tasty. It wasn't quite the normal Thanksgiving, but we will never forget it. Oh and did I mention, Friday was my birthday. What a weekend to remember!!!
